Procurement and Funding

Use of the Segway Personal Transporter (PT) as an official tool for law enforcement and other public service purposes is growing at a rapid rate. To assist with the acquisition of Segway PTs for your community, we encourage you to explore grant options that are available to help fund Segway PT programs.

The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) has funded the Department of Justice's Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) and Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) programs at all-time high levels. Both of the programs' performance measures align well with the benefits that a Segway PT program provides.

The ARRA has also funded Department of Energy (DOE) programs at an all-time high level. DOE initiatives for increasing the use of alternative-fueled vehicles and increasing the efficiency of federal, state, and municipal, fleet vehicles may have money to help fund Segway PT programs.

Homeland Security grant programs, in some cases, are also available to fund Segway PT programs.

Solicitation periods and new grant programs regularly open and close. Segway makes an effort to stay up-to-date on the program offerings that are appropriate for Segway PTs.
