In March 2011, Segway’s Patroller Expert and National Account Manager, Jamie Marsh, took to the road to launch “Patrolling Across America”.  The goal of the cross country, grassroots campaign tour was straightforward – visit underserved police departments, showcase Segway’s Patroller models, train officers on their features and allow them to test ride the models in their community for up to 2 full weeks.

The tour journeyed on for 9 months and by December had logged 36,000 miles, visited more than 120 police department accounts in 39 states and earned local and national media coverage along the way.

The program had it all – a Segway-wrapped recreational vehicle which functioned as a self-contained mobile office, a Segway-wrapped companion car, 20 Patrollers, training literature, marketing materials and more.  

“We took the Patroller to the law enforcement community and we were welcomed with open arms.  Taking a hands-on approach with officers, offering them the opportunity to learn more about the product, train with it and evaluate it over a period of time in their own environment was invaluable!,” said Marsh.  “On occasion, I would encounter a skeptical or misinformed participant. It was wonderful to watch how quickly that person became converted and ultimately took on the role of the department’s PT evangelist.”
