Segway® AND UNIFORMITY INCORPORATED ANNOUNCE RESELLER AGREEMENT FOR SEGWAY PERSONAL TRANSPORTERS
NORTHBROOK, IL - (Nov. 28, 2006) –Segway Inc. and Uniformity Incorporated, one of the nation’s leading providers of apparel and equipment to police, fire, and private security departments, today announced that they have entered into an agreement naming Uniformity as a commercial market reseller for the Segway® Personal Transporter (PT). Uniformity is an affiliate of IPC International, North America’s leading provider of security services to regional and super regional shopping centers.
Uniformity will sell Segway PTs and related accessories to shopping center property groups, contract security companies, law enforcement agencies and private businesses.
The Segway PT is an electric, self-balancing transportation device that emulates human balance, making it very maneuverable and easy-to-use. Police departments and security organizations worldwide already use Segway PTs to patrol downtown business districts, airports, shopping malls, parks and college campuses.
According to Jason Barton, vice president of sales at Segway Inc., “Uniformity is uniquely positioned to deliver an integrated security solution within the commercial security sector. Uniformity can provide contract security companies, shopping centers and other commercial customers with a single-source security solution that includes Segway PTs, training and even personnel,” says Barton. “They have a nationwide presence and a reputation for integrity and value that will serve their customers and Segway Inc. very well.”
Much of the appeal of Segway PTs among officers can be attributed to the performance characteristics:
- Officers stand eight inches taller on a Segway PT, enabling them to see and be seen over crowds and automobiles.
- Segway PTs are compact, use no gasoline and give off no emissions, allowing police, fire and security officers to perform their duties indoors and out.
- With a battery range of up to 24 miles per charge and a top-speed of 12.5 m.p.h., the Segway PT allows an officer to cover far more area than he or she could on foot.
- The Segway PT operates extremely quietly, and front and side cargo systems allow the officer to carry extra gear, including EMS equipment.
- With the exception of battery recharging there is no regular maintenance required on the Segway PT. Battery recharging costs are approximately 25 cents per day.
- Officers are also more approachable when on Segway PTs, making them highly effective in community policing applications.
