President Bush graces
the Japanese Prime Minister with a Segway PT.
According to a Reuters news report, U.S. President George W. Bush gave Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi a surprise gift of a Segway PT in mid-November. President Bush gave the Japanese leader the gift ahead of a summit at which they reaffirmed their close diplomatic ties. The President was riding the Segway PT when he met Koizumi outside the Kyoto State Guest House in the ancient Japanese capital.
Urged by President Bush to give it a whirl, Prime Minister Koizumi reportedly took a brief, 3 foot ride, and cried out, "Oh, very good."
Change is the cure for oil addiction.
With the release of Warner Brothers' blockbuster new movie, Syriana, Participant Productions is giving away a Segway PT as a part of their Oil Change campaign. The Oil Change campaign is designed to encourage us to reduce our dependence on oil. From their campaign:
"[W]e have the technology to dramatically reduce our dependence right now, technology like hybrid cars and renewable energy. With ingenuity, we can turn those technologies into thriving new businesses that will make America safer, cleaner and more prosperous. It all begins with the choices we make as individuals."

Batteries enjoy constant charging.
Just a friendly winter reminder regarding the proper charging and storing of batteries, to ensure optimal performance and battery life of your Segway PT, GT or XT:
- Segway PTs (and accessory batteries) should first be charged for at least 12 hours before initial use.
- When not in use, keep your Segway PT plugged-in and ensure it is charging. This will help prevent battery drain. If you cannot keep your machine plugged-in when not in use, then at least once a month you should plug-in your Segway PT and allow it to complete a full charge cycle.
See the Segway PT Reference Manual for details on Battery Charging.
- A Segway PT stored in the box will not abnormally drain the batteries if the control shaft is disconnected. If you must store your unit longer than a month without being plugged-in, you should first disconnect the control shaft cords or remove the batteries.
From all of us here at Segway, we wish you a peace-filled holiday season and a very Happy New Year!
And don't forget to enjoy the glide.
