Self-balancing is coming to more than just HTs.
In early October, Segway Inc. announced plans to license its Segway® Smart Motion technology to other companies. The world will get the first peek of other products using this technology in 2006, when WowWee Ltd. will launch the next generation of its award-winning Robonetics™ brand of robotic entertainment products, which includes Robosapien™, Roboraptor™, Robopet ™ and Robosapien™ V2.

Segway Smart MotionSegway Smart Motion is at the core of all the products Segway develops, including its well-known line of Segway HTs, as well as its Segway Robotic Mobility Platforms (RMPs) and “Concept Centaur”, the company’s four-wheeled light electric concept vehicle. Segway Smart Motion provides intelligent motion control that enables a device to monitor its environment, precisely control its motion and make the right decisions about how it should move.

"Working with Segway we will continue to raise the bar, surpassing the boundaries and expectations people have regarding the possibilities for everyday, useful and affordable consumer technology products," said Richard Yanofsky, president of WowWee Ltd. "We will use Segway Smart Motion to enable our products to move and behave in ways that challenge the imagination and provide advanced functionality."

"We are proud WowWee Ltd. will be the first licensee to utilize our Segway Smart Motion technology in its products," said Jim Norrod, chief executive officer of Segway Inc. "WowWee products are an outstanding platform for our Segway Smart Motion technology and will certainly provide an elegant, innovative user experience that people have come to enjoy from Segway technology."

You've probably seen us around.
Car and Driver In addition to its appearance in the NBC comedy "Joey" on October 13, the Segway PT was also the focus of Car and Driver columnist John Phillips in the November 2005 issue. Maxim magazine selected the Segway PT i180 as its editor's choice in its "Top Gear" section. USA Today published a lengthy article on Segway PTs being used in guided tours on September 1. Presenters included Segway management and employees, SEG America representatives, regulators, published authors and others associated with high technology and transportation: James Norrod, CEO and J. Douglas Field, CTO from Segway; Dan Tangherlini, Director, DC Dept. of Transportation; John Copelan & John Sage, Planners, Ayers/Saint/Gross; Bruce Landis PE, AICP Sprinkle Consulting; and Steve Kemper, Author, Code Name Ginger & Reinventing The Wheel.

You can browse the fun photographs taken by many of the attendees there at the online magazine for Segway PT enthusiasts, The Red Key.

The Red Key keeps Segway PT enthusiasts informed.
The Red Key The Red Key is a Web magazine covering stories, events and items of interest to Segway PT Enthusiasts. The publication was started by Chris Johnson in early spring of 2005 to gauge interest in a niche publication for Segway PT enthusiasts. The publication slants toward the social and recreational aspects of Segway PT ownership and keeps a focus on the human side of the Segway PT experience. The 12-page charter edition of The Red Key was first published as a PDF document.

In May 2005, The Red Key Web site went live with multimedia content, providing a more interactive experience for its users. In June, The Red Key started publishing content on a regular basis and attracted the first reader-submitted story. Since the summer, The Red Key continues to attract numerous stories and publishes regular updates and photos of Segway PTs out in the world. It's an interesting site that Segway PT enthusiasts should regularly visit!

From all of us here at Segway, we wish you a colorful autumn!
And don't forget to enjoy the glide.
